Hi! My name is Joyce
I grew up in a little village in the south of the Netherlands, close to the Belgian border. I spent most of my life dreaming about exploring the world so after finishing college I decided to act on my lingering wanderlust. I spent a year in sunny California working as an au pair and exploring the state.. experiencing a different country, different language, different culture… Having the time of my life. Meeting new people and going beautiful places. Back home again I found myself annoyed over the daily dull of working jobs I didn’t like, studying for my master’s degree in university and living a life without passion. Fortunately, it didn’t take too long until the desire to travel slapped me in the face again. I quit university, I quit my jobs and spent another year as an au pair in Sydney, Australia and traveled to Asia for a bit. I returned back home after a year and am now settling down a bit but I still try to squeeze as much travel in my life as I possibly can. Even if it’s just a weekend or even a day. I love exploring new places. Getting lost in the world. Diving into different cultures.
Traveling as a vegan
I became a vegetarian at the end of 2012 after watching the documentary Forks over Knives on Netflix. A year later I turned completely vegan after educating myself more and more through other documentaries, books and even YouTube videos. It has taken me on an amazing journey towards a more healthy and conscious life. As a vegan and celiac traveling can be a bit challenging at times and requires a bit more planning. But it’s definitely not as hard as some might think and that’s what I want to show people by writing about it on this blog! I myself love to get inspired by reading other people’s blog post before I go on a trip so I’m simply trying to return the favor by sharing my experiences and hoping it might help someone somewhere.
