Eindhoven is the 5th largest city in the Netherlands (by population). The city is known for its light art and is also home to Holland’s second largest airport. Some interesting things to explore are the Strijp-S area, the St. Catharina church, the Philips museum, the Stadswandelpark and the Prehistoric Village. Eindhoven only has one fully vegan restaurant, but there are many other places that offer vegan options.

Veg friendly lunch room with vegan and gluten-free options

Coffeelab is located right in front of the central train station of Eindhoven. People often grab a coffee here before hopping on a train, but it’s also a very nice place to hang out a little longer.

My sister and I took a train from Tilburg to Eindhoven last week because we needed to get ourselves some new glasses at the awesome Ace & Tate store, so Coffeelab was an excellent place for us to grab a little bite to eat. Of course, we had to try the vegan speculoos cheececake, since it looked SO good! I didn’t expect it to be gluten free, but got so excited when they told me it was (although they couldn’t guarantee there would be no cross contamination, but that wasn’t a problem for me personally.. it might be for you though, so just a friendly warning). Anyway, that was one of the best vegan cheesecakes I’ve ever had!

Onder de Leidingstraat

Veg friendly lunch room with vegan and gluten-free options

Onder De Leidingstraat is located in the popular Strijp-S area. Eindhoven Strijp-S has its own train station, but it’s only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the central train station in Eindhoven. Strijp-S is the creative and cultural center of Eindhoven. A great place to visit as there is plenty of interesting stuff to see and do. Check out the cute “strawbales” garden below. There was also a tiny house and a few other creative pop up buildings.

The restaurant itself is cozy and even has a small organic supermarket inside. There are games, books and magazines for the guests to play and read. I quickly browsed through the Lagom book – about the Swedish art of balance (or moderation) – while drinking a soy cappucino. Then I had the delicious ‘Avocado Spread sandwich’ with home made avocado spread, roasted chickpeas, spinach and a bit of spicy sauce.

The Happiness Kitchen

Veg friendly restaurant with vegan and gluten-free options

The Happiness Kitchen and The Happiness Cafe, both located in the centre of Eindhoven, are somewhat similar and run by the same owner. I have yet to visit the Happiness Cafe but I did have a lovely lunch at the Happiness Kitchen several times.

Everything at The Happiness Kitchen is mostly vegetarian and they have many vegan options. They offer Happiness Meals, where you pay for the size of the plate (Small, Medium or Large) and you get to choose 4, 5 or 6 scoops of whatever delicious food they prepared that day.

They also have things like superfood pancakes, apple crumble oats and pulled BBQ sandwiches for breakfast or lunch. And burgers, hot dogs, nacho bowls and shawarma rolls for dinner.
