Happy Earth is one of the 4 fully vegan restaurants in Rotterdam and a perfect place to go to if you’re looking for a healthy plant based meal.
The food: everything is whole foods plant based (no vegan fast food). Fresh and colorful. We tried the “save the tuna” sandwich, which was very good. They try to use organic and local produce whenever possible. Gluten-free meals available.
The place: seemed to be clean. Possibility to charge electronics (not near the tables though). Seating is fairly comfortable, but could be improved. There’s also a little shop that sells food and non-food. Restroom for costumers to use.
The staff: friendly and helpful. They speak better English than Dutch.
The price: meals range from €4,50 for mashed avocado on rye bread to €13,00 for a buddha bowl. Drinks range from €2,00 for an espresso to €7,50 for a large smoothie.
Baker’s Dough is the second concept by the owners of Baker & Moore. It is cookie dough heaven. You can imagine how stoked I was when I found out they have vegan and gluten-free cookie dough!
The food: cookie dough with ice cream and/or other toppings in a cup. They have vegan and gluten-free cookie dough, vegan raspberry ice cream and several vegan toppings such as raw cacao nibs, goji berries, fresh fruit, coconut flakes, pistachios, cashews, stewed pears and cranberry compote.
The place: feels like stepping into your grandmother’s kitchen. Limited seating.
The staff: very friendly, they will help you pick out the vegan toppings.
The price: ranges from €2,95 to €5,75 for the vegan cookie dough (depending on size). Ice cream is an extra €1,00 and toppings are €0,75 each.
Heavenly Cupcakes is proof that you can still eat delicious treats as a vegan that taste pretty much the same as the non-vegan version.
The food: lots of vegan sweets, including cupcakes and cheesecake. Gluten-free options. Soup and sandwiches for lunch (they also offer the Dutch Weedburger). Gluten-free brownies were a bit too bitter for my liking, but my non-vegan family absolutely loved the cupcakes.
The place: a patisserie, lunchroom and little shop in one. Very colorful and a nice athmosphere. In the shop you can get things like vegan cheeses and fake meats.
The staff: owner is very friendly and helpful and very passionate about her business.
The price: cupcakes are €3,25 each (€3,50 for gluten-free cupcakes). Cakes and pies range from €3,00 to €4,00 per piece. You can have lunch starting at €2,85 for a vegan cheese sandwich. The Dutch Weed Burger costs €9,50.
Mr Salad is all about healthy fast food. Not everything is vegan, but you will find many vegan options for the wraps, salads and smoothies.
The food: you can order off the menu or create your own salads, wraps, smoothies and juices. For the salads and the wraps you simply pick a protein like tofu or tempeh. Then add 4 mix-ins, 2 toppings and choose a dressing. They use a lot of local and seasonal ingredients.
The place: clean and spacious, modern interior with nice seating
The staff: very cheery. Able to tell you exactly what’s vegan or not.
The price: €6,50 for a wrap and €8,00 for a small salad. You pay extra for some ingredients. A small smoothie or juice costs €4,50.
